Doesn't want to sit on potty

Hello!

I have twin daughters who are 30 months and both are happy to sit on the potty but not without their nappies! They tell me when they are going to have a poo and want to be changed immediately so seem to be ready to start potty training but get really upset when I suggest that they sit on their potty without their nappy on. Should I just leave it for now? Or have I left it too late and they have become scared of it? There is no desperate rush to get them trained - it would just be nice to get them out of nappies. Any suggestions or advice would be gratefully appreciated!

It does click when they are up for it. Combination of the following worked for us...

  1. Experimenting with trainer seat as well as potty. As I recall, we had our first 'result' with this.
  2. Rewarding for sitting on potty, nappyless and counting to 20 - just to get used to it
  3. Communal toilet time - I.e. Multiple potties at nursery/play group; me on the loo and DD on potty. Do you have 2 potties for the twins, at least for this stage?
  4. Sitting her on potty first thing in morning and last thing at night when a bit more sleepy and inclined to relax
  5. Going for it, with lack of nappy / pull-up safety net during the day. The wetness sufficiently off-putting for her to want the improved alternative

All the standard stuff really. Hang in there - better to get it over with before end of summer.

Also, we seemed to fix weeing first with some annoying weirdness around insisting to be put into a nappy for daily poos, which lasted a couple of weeks and several grubby accidents before she abandoned that ridiculous hang-up.
