weeing when falling asleep for nap in car

my little one has just turned three and has started slowly potty trainingg

long story but i know he is late but MIL caused all sorts of hassles by scaring him of process
npow we are slwoly rectifying a mess

he tells me he needs to go and in last two weeks has started being able to wait till i get a potty

now however have noticed when he plays he wees himself - s really still a long way to go and also he fell asleep in car couple of times and weed then

is that normal?

tips? surely weeing when sleeping there is nothiung i can teach but just let him learn?

Completely normal that when he is asleep ie. relaxed that he does not notice that he needs a wee. If you know that there is a fair chance he will go to sleep then I would put him in pull-ups in the car.

The being so distracted is also normal. Don't worry about it. Keep reminding him and don't make a fuss.

And don't worry. No matter what MIL says, 3yo is not very late for potty training. When they are ready they are ready.

Yes, you are right about the hormone. Before the hormone is in high enough quantities, there is no way a child can be dry at night.

It won't confuse him if you explain that you are only putting a nappy on him in case he cannot wait for you to stop. Tell him if he notices he needs, then he should tell you and if it is safe to stop you will.

my little girl turns 3 in oct - she has only just grasped the potty, still have the odd accident every other day, has been good during naps but if in the car/pushchair I always put a sheet down (terry towling/waterproof backing) under her bottom although I have found it rare for her to wee during her day nap, its nice knowing there is some protection there if she does.

I have noticed if she is concentrating on a toy or to involved with games she has been having accidents. I think that is understandable for her age as they have their minds on other things I wouldn't worry to much GOOD LUCK

If you really don't want to go back to pull ups for journeys, we got a piddle pad to line ds1's car seat wile he was potty training. It worked really well.

I think they're made by sunshine kids but we got ours new from e-bay.

I use pampers disposable change mats under ds2 in car seat and pram.
