DD, 3.5, not leaving enough time to get to toilet

DD has been toilt trained for quite a while and with no night nappies for a few weeks. She's always been quite stubborn about going - eg won't 'try' before we go out - but until recently she's had few accidents.

In the past couple of weeks, though, she's had more and more accidents until today - 1 wet bed, 1 wee on cloakroom floor and another in pants. Each time, she starts jiggling about, then holding herself and we prompt her to go, but she just denies she needs to go until eventually she'll say 'I need a wee' and then doesn't get to the toilet in time.

I just don't know what to do. Today I've been very very cross with her because she obviously needed to go and knew it, but was just too stubborn to go. She also sometimes denies it when she has had a bit of a wee in her pants (but most of it on the toilet) - ie denying that her pants are wet.

I'm conscious that I shouldn't make a 'big issue' out of it as I don't want to escalate whatever is stopping her going to the toilet in time, but it just seems to be getting worse.

Help!

I think most DC will swear they didn't do it, just to be contrary. They all hate being told what to do!

I'd be tempted to back off and simply say that if she wets, she will have to change herself and put wet things in the wash, mop the wet floor, help you change wet bedding etc. Eventually this will become a nuisance to her, and she will get the idea that it is easier and quicker to go to the loo in good time.

Dd2 had a problem a bit like this but when she was older (7 I think) In her case it was solved with a star chart. We talked about a wee schedule through the day and then she got a star for every time she could say she'd been. Stopped the hurtling to the loo at the last possible moment.

thanks. 7 aargghh! Sometimes in the day I think it's because she doesn't want to 'miss' anything, but it's becoming a bit too frequent. Last night she wet again and DH wanted to put her back in nappies, but was dry for a couple of weeks so I've resisted going back to nappies as it seems too knee-jerk a reaction
