Nappy rash during potty training

Have just started potty training DS2. He is very young (2.2) - but he has severe eczema and I thought potty training him would help the patches in his nappy area to heal.

He has had a great first day - 10 hits; 3 misses. However he now has a really nasty bright red, raised rash on his upper legs (where he sits on the potty) and on his buttocks (not where he sits on the potty). It is clearly really painful for him . Wet pants have been promptly changed and he has done no poos.

Has anyone had any experience of this? I have tried putting his eczema creams on it and he has a layer of metanium under his night nappy.

When Dd started on the toilet with a plastic toilet seat (to take up the slack on the loo seat), she also got that raised rash on her legs, so I stopped her using the baby seat and it went. I used it again to see what happened and it appeared again, so I knew she was allergic to something that was in the plastic seat. HTH.

Thanks for that Solo - really helpful!

He may well be allergic to the potty as he has very sensitive skin (eg can't use plasters). Really hoping I can find a hypoallergenic potty though because we don't have a downstairs loo.

It probably wont take him long to grasp getting upstairs to the toilet in time. My Dd didn't really use a potty and nor did Ds and he was even younger than your Ds at 2yo on the nose.
Good luck!
