what do you do about nursery?

DD (just 3) started using the potty today, so far 2 accidents but used potty 5 times

am convinced she'll wet herself at nursery because she's only been there a few weeks and there's obviously loads of distractions. I don't really want to put her back in nappies though.

tried phoning nursery to see what I should do but no answer, will try tomorrow before dropping her off.

any ideas? the star chart we're using came in a pack of 4 so maybe I should send her with one for them to use? no idea if they would though.

I started DS (this time!!) on a day where we had a few days before nursery, so by the time he went it was day 4 or whatever,
they will have their own reward system i'd imagine
send loads of extra clothes and let them get on with it, they will be used to it! TBH i think DS's are quite good at taking them regularly.

They will be very used to it and she may well wet herself a couple times at nursery until she gets the hang of it. Just send in extra clothes and talk them through the rewards you are using at home. Dont worry they will have been through it many times.

Personally I think "Whee -- a day at nursery where the people who are used to this can deal with it!".

Send in LOTS of changes of clothes and be optimistic. There will be other children using the potty/loo so that helps to reinforce the whole thing IME.

hope so! they did say when she started that seeing other children would encourage her but nope - it was only today she suddenly decided it was time to use the potty! I'm not sure how often they'd remind her as most of the kids are older and just take themselves off to the loo.

Also, with a girl, switching to dresses for a while makes it easier from a practical point of view as often it's only the pants that need to be changed if there's an accident. I got DD three T-shirt dresses from Asda at £3 each while she was potty training.

ooh that's a good idea. although I had avoided skirts as I figured the wee would run down her leg and get on the floor (and her shoes), whereas trousers would soak it up IYSWIM?

When you drop her off tell them how shebos getting on and they will take it from there. They are very used to it.

But make sure you pack a lot of spares - I think I gave them 6 changes of clothes. Consider the shoes you send her in too.

yes shoes I'm a bit worried about as she only has one pair of trainers! wow six spares it'll have to be a big bag!

i invested in loads of cheap pants at tesco. with a girl i would encourage skirts - might save some outfits!!

maybe you could get some plastic sandals/croc types?

ah that's a good idea thanks. I'm only going to town after dropping DD off (don't think she's ready for a trip out yet IYSWIM!) but I'm going to get more skirts/dresses/shorts and knickers in Asda!

I'm normally a right shoe snob (only get from Clarks) but actually a cheap pair of jelly shoes or something is probably worth getting

also need to get some sort of travel potty.

got some Asda croc-type things, £3! and a couple of dresses and more knickers.

then went to pick her up, am in total shock and so proud, she stayed dry for her 5 hour nursery session!

that's good - the nursery are normally very good with keeping an eye

when I said 6 outfits I should specify my ds was there for almost 8 hours so may be a bit much for a 5 hour session!

yes they said they kept reminding her, she didn't actually ask to go (she does at home) - I think she's a bit shy still, she's only been there a few weeks.

I left some star stickers (from her chart) in the bag, they didn't use them though, but she didn't seem to mind so we'll just keep them for home.

she's already got her 15 stars and her reward for it was a new sticker album, I promised her a DVD for 30 stars, thinking it'd take a couple of weeks, but I'm going to order it now because at this rate she'll get it by Friday

Maths - my dd came in and asked to use the potty - we did a reward chart and after every 10 stickers she got a farm animal toy, she also when she filled in the whole chart got a toy she had chosen - very into kitchen stuff so got a "breakfast" set.

Off the point I know but she goes to nursery only x2 per week so was a bit concerned - yes we had lots of accidents for a couple of weeks but they were really encouraging - she still does have a few accidents HOWEVER it is usually because she is so busy she forgets but we have gone from 5 changes of clothes to a pair of knickers occasionally which is great! More tops get changed as she likes to get her sleeves soaking wet .

crikey... DD got out of bed to use her potty before she fell asleep, and then had a massive wee first thing today. her night nappy seemed dry. may have to think about dropping the night nappy too

Ooh, good on you - we have generally 4-5 totally dry nappies per week now, have bought the bed mats and think will go to cheapest nappies I can find as seems a waste to continue using other ones! (12 hour all night etc etc!)

We've just gone for dropping night nappy -- they were almost always dry once DD had started training in the day but I wanted to give it a few weeks after she'd finished daytime training first (and also wait until we'd got back from holiday).

yes we're moving her bedroom round so we'll leave it 'til she's used to that. have to get some waterproof sheets too methinks!

What do you reckon with a new baby on the way? Shall I just let her have her nappy until post the baby or should I do it now - got 2-3 weeks left!

d'you mean just at night? I'd leave it. you'll have quite enough on your plate with night feeds without changing sheets too!

DD's had no accidents since those 2 on the first day. she just takes herself off to the potty now and the first we hear of it is when she wanders back with knickers round her ankles!

she's at nursery now, wonder if she's still dry!

It's pretty common to regress a bit with potty training when a new sibling arrives, so I wouldn't push anything new now.

ho hum, DD had one minor accident at the end of her preschool session yesterday - I think it was so busy with pick-up etc that she wasn't reminded to go. dry at home though

I'd heard about the new sibling = regression thing too, so we didn't push it as DD was 2.2 when DS was born although DD was interested in the potty then. until recently I'd really regretted that, as I felt I should've gone with it then, but actually now I'm glad as waiting 'til she was ready has meant it's been pretty easy so far
