Our son has recently turned three and has been reasonably well potty-trained for a couple of months, although he has no nap or night-time bladder control, so we put a nappy on him for afternoon nap and overnight.

But the last two weeks he has suddenly regressed and become very reluctant to wee or poo on his potty or on his little toilet seat. For some reason he seems to now hang on until he has a nappy on for afternoon nap or nightime and then he just does his business into the nappy. Wondering what strategy to use to coax him back into using his potty - I can't get any sense out of him as to why he suddenly wants to do it in his nappy again. Wondering if it's a control thing and if so what to do ?

Does it mean he#s not ready for potty training? Should we postpone it?

Please give me some advice !

I'm no expert in fact it's fair to say I hate potty training but a spot of bribery worked a treat for us. Would a smartie for wees do the trick? Or if you've tried that is there something he really wants that you could work towards e.g. star stickers for each wee and when he's got 5 or whatever he gets whatever it is that 3YO boys are into?

Also, even though he's not dry at nap times could you try putting him to bed without a nappy and have the potty nearby? (obviously using waterproof sheet for bed and perhaps a pampers piddle pad or whatever they're called).

My DD does the same with poos, she always waits til she has nappy on at night or nap time so today I tried nap without nappy. Will know the result when she wakes up in half an hour!!

My son has also just regressed in the past week or so. He's been in pants since his 3rd birthday (2nd May) and I thought we were on the verge of saying he was done (trained). Now virtually all poo is going in pants. Bit by bit through out the day.
I sit him on the potty before we go out in morning. Some times we're lucky and a poo is ready. Other times a smear comes while we're out.
I get him to sit on the potty for ages after lunch in front of tv and this would ordinarily have been when the big poo would have come.
Today it has come bit by bit in pant after pant. I have wiped, scraped and rinsed through all afternoon! He was at pre-school today so its only been half a day. Feels like an eternity.

Why has he suddenly lost it? Wish I knew.
I do know that whatever he's playin or watching he does very intensely. I don't think he feels the poo coming out.

Praying he'll get it soon.

Try delaying the nap and sitting him on potty before hand. For at least 15mins.

Then again straight after bath. Let him play in his room while sitting on potty. Warm water of bath can help to bring on a poo.

Good luck!
