When will blood pressure stop spiking after pre-eclampsia birth?

I had my baby at 36+1 after severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP. I’m five days after birth and on a separate ward to my baby.

The doctors have said they can only discharge me from here once my blood pressure stops spiking. Just looking to hear from others how look it took for blood pressure to normalise/stop experiencing spikes and whether you had to stay in hospital or were discharged to manage at home! TIA

Sorry to hear this - I had very similar, by the sounds of things. Have you been prescribed Labetalol? That brought my blood pressure down within 5 days or so, but I had to check my blood pressure multiple times daily and had a number of home visits once discharged to check I was ok.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

I was in hospital for about 5 days in total. Once they got me on the right dose of medication it settled quickly - within a few days. I then had to monitor it at home and had extra visits and calls. It was all back to normal and I was off the meds within a few months. It’s awful OP, I feel for you xx

I was sent home 7 days after having my baby.

(Obviously still on the tablets)

I was 9 days after PET & HELLP - sorry that’s probably not what you want to hear!

Was on Nifedipine for 6 weeks after.

And in the future please make sure you have annual BP checks - I was diagnosed with Hypertension in my 50’s - there’s a big link between PE & HT layer on life.

But most of all, I hope your wee one is ok & and that you are recovering - take care of yourself & hopefully you are both home soon.

I had PE, gave birth at 30 weeks.
I was in for 2 weeks postnatally. They discharged me but as I was coming back to NICU every day I had to go in for BP check to postnatal ward.

After I think 1 week of that I was discharged to gp care and I bought my own BP machine. Was still on meds for a few months after that before stopping.
Hoping I remember correctly as DD is 11 now!
