Breast referral after mastitis

Hi all, new Mum here!

I had the dreaded mastitis two weeks ago, which ended up with me being in a&e on an IV of Co-amoxiciclav. Luckily the antibiotics have worked their magic and my infection and mastitis symptoms have completely gone. Although, as a result I’ve stopped breastfeeding and moved completely on to the bottle. (Baby thriving on his formula :) )

I have now been referred to a breast clinic and have an appointment in a couple of weeks. The hospital said they would do this as a protocol as my infection was quite bad!

im wondering if anyone else has had mastitis and been referred to a breast clinic after? What was your experience at your appointment?
Im assuming an ultrasound to confirm no abscess or lingering infection?

thanks a lot! X

Almost exactly the same experience here! Yes it was an ultrasound. All pretty straightforward. Hope you’re recovering well!

Yes this happened to me. I had really bad mastitis which led to a week long stay in intensive care with sepsis. I had a breast clinic appt 2 weeks after discharge. They just had a look and feel and told me it was fine and I could go back to feeding off that side (although I already had by that point).

I didn’t have an ultrasound at that appointment, but I’d already had a few when I was in hospital.

Thanks for sharing! So sorry to hear you had Sepsis and a long stay, that must have been so scary especially with a little one. Hope you’re doing okay now x
