Passed very large blood clot 6 weeks postpartum c section

I’m 6 weeks postpartum today. I had a c-section. I am still bleeding everyday (just like a normal period level). I have had a few blood clots, but today I passed a massive one. It was about 10cm in length and 5cm wide. Yesterday I was in a lot of pain in my lower tummy/scar area. It felt like period pains, but worse. I was thinking it was a urine infection as I felt the need to almost push (which I now understand was my body pushing this clot out).

Im just wondering if anyone else has had this at this point postpartum? Is it normal to still be bleeding?

I called 111 (as GP was shut due to bank holiday). They sent me to maternity unit to be assessed. The doctor did a swab and is booking me in for an ultrasound (this won’t be for a few days).

I am assuming it was a blood clot, but not 100%. Is it possible to pass a piece of retained placenta this way?

I had something like this and it was a piece of membranes - so not placenta itself but the thing that attaches the placenta to the uterus wall. It looked like a clot but (tmi) i basically fished it out from the loo and when i felt it, it was quite clearly more substantial. It was earlier than 6w pp but I don't quite remember how far along - i know I'd had quite bad tummy pains beforehand, then felt the same sensation to push as you described and then quite a lot of bleeding. I had an internal ultrasound and a round of antibiotics and nothing else was done. After that, they bleeding pretty much stopped. Fingers crossed it's something that you can get sorted quickly!
