No period after baby

Hi all
Had a baby in October. Light bleeding for a couple of days in November and nothing since! Feels like my period is coming every day but nothing happens.
I'm bottle feeding and 42. Wondering if anyone else took a while before their period returned after baby?
Thanks

Totally normal. Could you possibly be pregnant though?

Butterflyfern · 02/02/2025 08:22

Agree it's totally normal not to have a period yet if you only gave birth in October.

But ... Constantly feeling like my period was coming (and it not doing) was my first pregnancy symptom. Could you be pregnant again? Some women are very fertile soon after giving birth! I'd do a test to make sure tbh

No chance. Had sex once a couple of weeks ago for the first time and that was protected. I'd lose my head if I was pregnant!! I have a very patient husband 😂

Nope!

I also gave birth at the end of October and no period yet either. I am breastfeeding though. I think it's normal either way.

Mine took over 12 weeks to come back after dd1, but I did breastfeed for a couple of months ! After dd2 it came after about 6 weeks sadly and she was exclusively bottle fed

TheEllisGreyMethod · 02/02/2025 16:07

I had a baby October 2023 and still no period, I am breastfeeding but so are all my friends who had babies at a similar time and I am very much the last to have a period.
But I am absolutely ecstatic as I'm one and done and never liked periods, that said I do occasionally have a few days where I feel like it's coming

I have been formula feeding. I am getting paranoid something is wrong. I've lost my baby weight too. Hope it's nothing to worry about.

I agree, it's nice not to have it but I can't help my anxiety kicking in thinking I'm ill!? Sounds crazy doesn't it. Just hearing so much bad news lately, that's not helping. Before I fell pregnant the periods started to get further apart and it was due to early changes because of my age. This is the longest it's been though.

Mine didn't come back until my daughter was 15 months! Was sporadic before with long gaps and since it returned it's been regular and more painful! Enjoy not having it while it lasts and book a doctors appointment just for your peace of mind in the meantime.

Thanks. Was you bottle feeding?

Mine didn’t come back for between 18-30 months but I was BF. If you don’t BF then your body will try to get pregnant again as it doesn’t know a baby is there - so be careful! :)

Thanks but this seems more normal for Breast Feeding. Wonder what people's experience is for bottle feeding.

Your periods will come back but I’m not sure if there are any studies of bottle feeding and periods I’ve only seen them for BF.

I wouldn’t be worried yet though. Also at our age it could be peri menopause and dodgy cycles anyway! I’d enjoy it!

YoungMacDonald · 02/02/2025 19:36

I bottle fed and it was 3.5 months until my first bleed. It took almost a full year for my periods to return to normal.

A mix of both!

I feel like I've opened a can of worms when I should've been more patient. The Dr sent me for an ultrasound, that came back abnormal and I was told I could have cervical cancer (without the typical symptoms!) then a consultant said the chances are so slim given my last smear (December 2023) was OK and I'm not having the typical cervical cancer symptoms. He's sent me for an MRI just to confirm the lining on my cervix is OK. Maybe I shouldn't have rushed and waited. This additional worry is awful and hopefully not needed!

@AnxiousDhey op, just read through your thread and I’m also concerned about no period yet, I’m also formula feeding and I’m almost 12 weeks PP, just wondering if/when yours returned and if all was ok? Hope your tests went well! 🤞

Hi! Mine appeared after 5 months. I went through many checks and a huge scare from a GP, but if only I just waited it would've avoided the unnecessary worry!
I'm sure yours will come back soon. Our body has been through a lot.
Be prepared for a heavy one!
