Hair loss 4 months post partum

Hi,

I've noticed the past week that my hair seems to be shedding alot more I've noticed when I brush my hair and there's also strands on my pillow when I wake up. I know post partum hair loss usually starts around this time. However I'm scared I'm going to lose a lot of hair, I have thin hair to begin with so I'm already self conscious of my hair.

Is there anything I can take to help this I.e certain vitamins etc? Also how long did the hair loss last for you?

In my case it was awful - mine started dropping out about 4 months pp, twice (as in after both pregnancies). People will say that it's just getting rid of the excess you build up when you're pregnant - that might be true to some degree but sadly I ended up with far less hair than I did before i got pregnant. It was quite upsetting and lasted about 4 months each time.

Nothign that can realisticaly be done though usual blood tests coud rule out iron and thyroid issues. Don't be tempted to buy the expensive shampoos they won't help with the shed although some can make your hair look thicker.

My hair did go very thin and my fringe pretty much went completely (my hairline basically receded), however i never got any bald spots and it then did go back to normal. tbh the worst part was the regrowth when I had tufty bits all over the front of my head. The shedding literally stopped overnight after I think about 4 months. Certainly by the one year mark I had lots of new hair coming through and things were a lot better.

It's really awful for some peple and I sympathise entirely.

Just wanted to say I’m starting to notice this too, baby is 12 weeks. I’ve got super fine hair anyway but I think my scalp is a bit more noticeable and I was aware of more hair coming out in my hands yesterday. I am taking a supplement called Her9 but have been a bit lax on it of late so need to get back to it.

I want to say it last a month or two (hard to remember) and mostly it's not noticeable. I just hated 9m-12m when it starts growing back and you get ridiculous regrowth and flyaways. I think most people just assume you have wild hair rather than attributing it to postpartum hair loss. I do know someone who lost big clumps though so it varies.

I lost mine at the front just as @Clearinguptheclutter said. You know no one ever mentioned it could happen and none of my friends said a word about it when I mentioned it. They all seemed surprised…is this one of those ‘don’t mention it’ things about having children. Why the secrecy !

It took a good 6months to get back to normal.
I’d give Regaine a go to cover up the temporary loss if it’s receding or in definite patches.
Dont waste money on the womens version, the mens is exactly the same in just a different bottle. Use once a day every day as if you stop it stops working.
It worked for me then and even now as it started receding again after the menopause.
Honestly….it’s great stuff.
