Period after a baby?

Hi everyone, I had a baby 8 weeks ago and am bottle feeding. I’ve not had a period sense giving birth and I started to spot last night, which I thought was the start of my first period so I put on a pad and went to bed as I expected to waken up and have a heavy flow as I usually would. Anyway, I woke up to a clean pad which I thought was strange. Although still spotting when I wipe. I guess my question is did any of your periods start like this?
just to add, myself and my parter have had unprotected sex a few time now although the hasn’t finished inside me (sorry TMI) I know this doesn’t always protect you from getting pregnant as I’ve heard implantation can start like the symptoms I am experiencing? Although I took a test today and it’s negative!

any advice welcome! Sorry for rambling xx

I take it you're not on the pill. I had weird spotting on the pill after giving birth (around 8 weeks) so it could be that. Also, you're hormones are still all over the place so could be that too. I would be extra careful regarding unprotected sex as a lot of women fall pregnant in this window.

You can fall pregnant as early as 3 weeks after giving birth and you are very fertile right now. A pregnancy test should be taken 3 weeks after each pregnancy risk for it to be accurate.

If you don’t want another baby just yet I’d strongly suggest you get yourself onto somw
contraception or at least use condoms!

No, I’m not on the pill! I am booked at the end of the month with the family planning clinic to get the copper coil all being well

You can’t have a coil fitted if you have had any unprotected sex in the 3 weeks prior to fitting.

Sorry, I should clarify that. You can have it fitted as emergency contraception if all the unprotected sex you’ve had is in the five days prior to fitting, or 5 days after your earliest possible ovulation date. It’s more complicated if you’ve not had a period since you had your baby as we can’t work out what that date might be.

Yeah I know, my appointment isn’t until the end of the month so I actually have just over 3 weeks thankfully☺️
