Bit of a long shot, has anyone else experienced this?

Hi guys. Bit of a specific situation but just wondering if anybody else has experienced the same/similar.

I am 3 weeks post c section today. At exactly 2 weeks PP, my wound opened up on one side (only one stitch!) and gushes of foul smelling fluid came pouring out. I went back into hospital for almost a week and was treated for an infection.

I had 3 days of IV antibiotics and I am now back at home continuing the course of antibiotics in tablet form.

I had a CT scan whilst in hospital and it showed a small hemotoma and a lot of fluid build up, but nothing that required drainage. It appeared that my body was draining the fluid itself.

Fast forward a week since this happened, I still have the tiniest bit of fluid oozing (extremely minimal compared to last week and no foul smell thank god).

I had a wound check at the GP today and was told things are moving in the right direction but there was still some signs of slight swelling on the right side. I have another check at the end of the week once I've finished my antibiotics.

Has anybody else experienced something like this? If so, how long after the antibiotics finishing is the swelling likely to go down? How long until I can expect the fluid to stop oozing? I still feel quite heavy on the right of my stomach (the other side is absolutely fine). I am pretty mobile now but the heaviness on the right of my stomach is noticeable particularly towards the end of the day. I just want to physically feel normal again and have my body back 😩😩

Anybody have any similar or the same experience to share? Gutted that this happened as the recovery from my first EMCS was so smooth compared to this time.

I had something similar happen my tummy was all swollen and hard around my c section then I had an infection once the fluid drained I’m sure this only lasted around 2 weeks I’ve still been left with hardness around my c section now 6 months pp the doctor says everything’s ok and I’m fully healed I don’t know if it’ll ever go away now 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks for the reply @Girlmum22 sorry this happened to you too, it's not pleasant at all is it.
I'm feeling hopeful as I've had no fluid oozing for over 12 hours now and the wound is looking better and completely dry so I'm hoping this means I'm one step closer to recovery. Still definitely feel the swelling though.

If you don't mind me asking, does the hardness around your section scar bother you or impact you on a day to day basis in any way?

@FebMama I have just come across your post as I have had the exact same situation happen to me. I am still feeling a heaviness on the right hand side of my stomach, it’s not painful but noticeable when I’m walking about. Did yours get any better? Did you ever find out what it was?

I'm so sorry for the delayed response @RMPX29 I haven't been on Mumsnet in forever!!

To answer your question - YES! Things did get better. Just give it time. And plenty of rest. Time is definitely a healer. I hope you are feeling better. 😊
