Postpartum recovery with 3rd baby taking forever?!

Okay so not forever but it feels like forever for me😂 3rd baby will be 4 weeks old on Friday and I'm still having on and off bleeding and still leaking milk eventhough I'm not breastfeeding. I'm guessing I got lucky with my other two babies, bleeding completely stopped by day 6 with number 1 and day 10 with number 2 - although I did hemmorage quite badly with both of them (but not with baby 3) so maybe my body essentially got it all over and done with in one go rather than dragging it out?

Anyone else find that recovery took longer with subsequent babies?

Yes definitely. Felt like I'd been kicked up and down the stairs for substantially longer for number 3 than 1 or 2. I'd say you'll be feeling back to normal by 6 weeks.

DD1 is 7 weeks tomorrow. She’s my third baby and the recovery this time has been much longer. Only this week I’ve stopped wearing pads and I still feel bruised inside my vagina. She did have a big head though! I seriously wonder if there’s a tear or something the midwives missed as I just can’t believe recovery has been so much longer this time.

Oh bless! Mine is 7 weeks old today. My bleeding finally fully stopped when she was 4 weeks old. I keep getting awful contraction pains though that I never had with the other two, my mam seems to think its my stomach muscles coming back together 😅

Anyone else still producing milk at 7 weeks yet not breastfeeding?! I just thought "hmm my nipples feel cold" looked down and they've leaked on to my shirt😂 I didn't even breastfeed this one for a couple of days like I did with my 2nd, went straight to bottle as I was so unwell after having her I didn't have the strength 🤦‍♀️

Maybe she's been sexually assaulted before
Maybe she hates having her breasts touched
Maybe she just doesn't want to BF and that's perfectly fine
Of course it's acceptable Hmm

Oh a judgemental mumsnetter.

Hi OP, I’m years old now but it took longer to get over the birth of my third than it did the first two. It was common to have 3 kids when I was young, and my friends and I all noted the third recovery took longer. Ignore the nasty poster.

WeightoftheWorld · 17/02/2023 09:07

I've only got 2, but I bled lochia for about 6 weeks with both of them, and I had a haemorrhage with no.2 as well. Physically it took a bit longer for me to lose weight and for my abdomen to stop looking like I was in early pregnancy with no.2, but he was much bigger than no.1 and consequently so was my bump, so that presumably also had an impact. With no 1 I was in a pencil skirt looking my usual self at a graduation 2 weeks post partum and back in my old skinnies by 6 weeks. With no.2 it was more like 12 weeks. I also had some issues with continence (both types) after no.2 which took about 6 weeks to resolve, and I had more complications with my episiotomy with no.6 which also took about 4-6 weeks to resolve. I'd say also my abdomen area is just permanently changed further since having no.2 and my pelvic floor too.

Yes because breastfeeding is always as simple as just "sticking her on your boob for a couple of days"

Are you really that thick?

Yep
Yep (not just breasts, I'm quite touch phobic with every part of my body unless it's my partner)
And yep with my first, I tried with my 2nd but it just didn't work out, and with the 3rd I did want to give it a go again but after a very long and painful induction process, plus being given a painkiller I'm allergic to, I wasnt actually able to stay conscious after birth much for a couple of days, so breastfeeding would of been very difficult x

You don’t need to justify not bf op - ignore the vicious poster

im 8 weeks into having my second and my recovery is a lot worse. My stomach just looks so much higher, my C-section pain recovery was worse and my bleeding lasted longer
