High heart rate during labour/birth/postpartum

Hi everyone

I just wanted to ask if anyone had experience of a high heart rate during labour and how long it took to come back down?
Mine was 140-160 in labour and came down to 120 a few hours later and then 109 the next morning.
I was sent home as it was clearly reducing. I was asked if I had any other symptoms such as chest pain, swelling etc. I didn’t and still don’t.
However, now I’m so paranoid about my heart rate!! Wondering if it’s normal yet. I try to check it but I’m anxious whilst checking so I can literally feel it start to go faster lol.
A midwife did come over the next day and check my pulse, didn’t comment and said “yep fine”. I didn’t even want to ask what it was because I was trying so hard to keep calm whilst she was checking!!
I am now anxious any time someone even mentions checking my heart rate.

I would really love to hear of any experiences?
My health anxiety is so bad right now.

I really wouldn’t worry. It will have been high in labour due to adrenaline etc.
109 is MARGINALLY high, the midwife would have mentioned if it was a concern when she checked the other day.
your anxiety is probably the only thing that will increase it at this point. Really try not to stress and enjoy your little bundle as much as you can xx

Try taking some magnesium supplements, only up to the recommended amount and time it to before bed. Most people are deficient and it is used in regulating the heart rate. I would also cut back on any caffeine in your diet and give it a couple of weeks.

My heart rate was 88 the other day when my husband made me check on his Apple Watch (I was panicking all day!)
So I guess it’s not consistently above 100 and maybe will take a few weeks to come down? I’m absolutely freaking out about heart failure and leaving my babies :(

@mzlk 88 is a perfect heart rate, I live with a heart rate that can reach 200bpm resting (something called pots) and it poses no risk to my heart -just really annoying!
I promise you a couple of days of increased hr is absolutely fine and you will have no lasting damage xx
