How long did you bleed after caesarean?

With my first (EMCS) it was just a week or so. I’ve now had an ELCS and been bleeding every day since, I’m nearly six weeks. Not very much bleeding but enough that I need a pad every day. Midwife’s said I was fine at my 3 weeks check and to keep an eye on it but I’m surprised it’s still going now.

Yes I did for a good few weeks, can’t remember exactly but I’d say around that. Speak to your GP if you’re worried! Hope you recover well x

6 weeks with my first two sections and then 4 weeks with my third.

IWantItThatWay002 · 17/11/2022 19:13

About 6ish weeks in all. I thought it had stopped at 1 point & then came back.

Oh Christ I bled for about 9 weeks straight after mine. Pretty sure weeks 7-9 was a period though, just a really long one, because it stopped after that.

waitingwaitingwaiting2 · 17/11/2022 20:21

@Eranzer nine weeks?? Bloody hell, I’m fed up at nearly six!

mine got very light for a day but then started up again today, dark red bleeding. I’m so tired of it!

Not even one week. I think they hoovered me out

ABrotherWhoLooksLikeHellMugYou · 17/11/2022 20:23

Same after my VBAC and PPH tbh. One of the few perks

doodlejump1980 · 17/11/2022 20:24

10 weeks, but that was an emcs with twins so two placental sites hence the longer bleeding.

KitchenSupper · 17/11/2022 20:24

Are you breastfeeding? Just wondering if that’s actually your period, rather than post birth bleeding!

I bled for about 6 weeks after mine, but it was very light for the last 3 weeks or so.

eurochick · 17/11/2022 20:32

Seven fecking weeks.

reallyjustwantgin · 17/11/2022 20:35

I bled for about 11/12 weeks after mine. It would come and go a bit. I mentioned this to the GP at my sons 8 week check (which happened at 11 weeks) and he said I likely had an infection. He prescribed me antibiotics and I stopped within the a few days. I didn't realise I was unwell as all the symptoms (exhausted, sweating etc) were in keeping with recovery, being a new mum and it was the height of summer.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/11/2022 20:49

Well over 6 weeks , can't remember how long exactly but it was ages.

Twokidsanddone · 17/11/2022 21:02

Just over 6 weeks. Got 3 days rest then my period. I was really surprised it lasted so long

boogiejive · 17/11/2022 21:04

6 or 7 weeks both times - one an emergency, one planned.

waitingwaitingwaiting2 · 17/11/2022 21:27

@decafsoyaflatwhite , yes breastfeeding round the clock, I’m knackered. I suppose it never fully stopped, just one day this week where it was a light brown tan colour, and a bit lighter. Now back to dark red, not especially heavy. I’d be surprised if it were my period, I didn’t get it for a year with my first!

I'm 5.5 weeks now and only just stopped

Bulbasaur90 · 19/11/2022 17:50

I'm currently in the same boat. 5 weeks post ELCS.
I stopped bleeding after a week but went to the doctors with what I thought was thrush. They found my mucus plug was still in place and stopping my bleeding. Removed it and bleeding resumed, heavy at first then lighter. Since then it's been on and off, red then dark brown, stop and start. Went to docs again yesterday, they've taken swabs and waiting to hear but they think it's normal.
