Hair loss 10 months after baby

DD is 10 months old and I'm still losing hair at an alarming rate. Is this normal? When should it stop? I don't remember it going on this long with my DS but I only BF him for 3 months and DD is still BF now. I'm not quite at the bald patch stage yet but hair is noticeably thinner and a lot more comes out each time I brush or wash it. How can I stop it falling out?!

There isnt a lot you can do to stop it but it will calm down. Mine shed dramatically at about 4 months after giving birth (i stopped breast feeding at 3 months) and i had noticeable patches where you could see my scalp especially around my hairline and temples....
It stopped dropping out after about a month.... i had been very worried about it but it stopped. I had whispy hair growth in the patches for about a year while i grew back.
I imagine your hormone levels will still be up and down if you are breastfeeding.

I don't have the answers but just wanted to show some solidarity - my little one is 1 next week and I'm still losing quite a bit of hair! I didn't realise it could last this long. I wonder if it's slightly a hormonal thing? Are you breastfeeding at all? I wonder if that can have an impact as the baby is still getting many of my nutrients. Big hugs anyways because it isn't fun - so tired of the hair slugs in the shower!

Get your thyroid levels checked. Its common for them to go a bit haywire post partum and it can cause hair loss.

I’d also get your iron levels checked.

My hair started falling out about 4 months after giving birth but it also coincided with when I stopped breastfeeding. I lost a lot for a couple of months and then it stopped.

Please get your iron levels checked ..
that’s exactly the same hair loss I had and needed lots of iron .

Thanks all. I'd felt a bit silly/vain going to the GP about it but I will definitely ask them about iron and thyroid now.

@ItsAutumnThen yes still breastfeeding morning and evening although I've cut right down lately and am trying to stop entirely before I go back to work in a month. We'll see if it makes a difference! I hate seeing how much of it comes out in the shower, never thought I'd find myself wanting to wash my hair less often on maternity leave!
