First period after stopping Breastfeeding

Hey ladies I am currently 9 months PP I stoped breastfeeding 8 weeks ago completely, today I have got my first period since havING DD and it's heavier then I ever imagined possible with clots?! Is this normal? I've read it can be heavy but this is something else! X

I obviously can't say for certain that what you're experiencing is normal (was v much brushed aside as not a concern by my GP - but I was never convinced), but I had extremely heavy periods for 9 months after my periods returned postpartum (I was still breastfeeding but periods came back anyway at 7m pp). I was using maternity pads - the absolutely HUGE ones that are like nappies for 2 days of my period, then I could move back to using a cup and back up pads/period pants. It was awful tbh.

If it's the same next month, I'd speak to a GP.

@pregnantncnc thanks for your reply! I've felt absolutely terrible during this period so sick and such a heavy period, it is my first one in 21 months so hoping it's down to that! Will keep an eye on them over coming months xx

My periods are sooo much heavier and more painful and I'm still ebf. They came back at 8 weeks PP and baby is now 8 months. I wasn't prepared for how much they would be different. I literally have to stay in on period day 2 every month as it's so heavy.

@Flittingaboutagain that's what mine was like! Two days of it I literally couldn't go anywhere as I was having to change every hour!! It also lasted 7 days! I used to have three / four of very light periods x

Yes I went for a two hour walk and my jeans were soaked through despite using a heavy flow tampon immediately before leaving the house. Awful and never again!
