Hi all
I’ve got a 6 week old and i’m suffering with post natal anxiety. I saw my GP this morning who referred me to health visitor. Health visitor rang me this afternoon and spent 25 mins on the phone with me which was helpful. I just wondered what happens now, i think they will stay in touch with me but wondered if anyone had positive experiences of their health visitor getting them through anxiety and how they helped you? Thank you x

I've heard mixed reviews about health visitors but mine has been great for both me and my little one

I suffer with both post natal anxiety and depression and was open and honest with her about it. She got me a referral for the perinatal mental health team (who ended up being crap), also told me to go to the GP and recommended a group called PANDAS specifically for mums with anxiety (although I never ended up going as I prefer doing a class which isn't focused on me and is focused more on my little one)

She talked me through plans for some of my anxieties e.g what I would do with baby girl when out and about and she cried etc. and she even came for extra visits when I was at my worst as a bit more support

I'll be moving soon and will be sad to leave her behind! I'm hoping I get another good one but I have heard mixed reviews of the service on here so who knows!

Oh thats good to hear! I agree about hearing mixed reviews and tbh was a little bit skeptical when the GP said she would get the HV onboard more for me but mine was actually pretty good. I guess i’m just looking for positivity as right now i’m wishing the days away til things get easier, but in the process i’m missing out on the precious newborn stage by being so anxious!

I can totally empathise with the thinking you are missing out on the newborn stage. It totally flies by!

I would just say take every day at a time though (easier said than done i know) and just get cuddles in where you can, they really help both you and your baby!
