SIL's stitches haven't all dissolved at 9 months pp

What can be done? One is still there causing barbed wire like pain. Anything I can advise her to do? We have never come across this before and we're in our 40s and have lots of babies in the family. Sounds horrible!

Can it not be removed by a gp/nurse

This is very obviously something that she needs to go to her GP about! I'm astonished she's got to 9 months without doing so - I think she's quite lucky that it hasn't turned into a nasty infection, there's a reason the stitches are supposed to come out.

Has she not mentioned it to her gp or public health nurse at any stage?!
