Feeling awful with baby blues

I'm really struggling with what I think to be baby blues but worried will become PND.

I had baby blues with my 1st and they felt more extreme- I couldn't eat atoll, was mostly in bed etc but it passed within a week. I had a difficult birth and recovery and was a first time mum and none of those are an issue this time with baby number 2.

Tears started on evening of day 3 and t first it seemed minor in comparison to last time. But it is now day 9 and I am getting worse. Am now waking every morning feeling low and sick and this is lasting the day- at first it was tears late afternoon which I could get past with talking with DH/ my mum and keeping busy. Baby is feeding well, sleep is actually happening, DH helping loads, lots of family to talk to and my older child has adjusted well. I have recovered really well physically. So I don't know why it is so bad.

I am so in love with my two children. I feel so much sadness about how grown up my oldest is and what has all past now in their baby and toddler years, I am sad that I will not be pregnant or have another baby ( the right decision for many reasons), I can't get excited about the future eg a holiday later in the year/ Christmas as that will mean my babies are growing and I'm getting closer to them being too big and eventually an empty nester. It is so selfish to want to keep them small I know.

Does anyone have experience of managing these feelings and if they reduced after baby blues. Also is it likely baby blues will last much longer. I have read few days to 2 weeks and cannot go on like this.

My HV said after 2 weeks that's when they should be easing. Are you still in touch with the HV regularly? Unfortunately I had developed PND and they were really good at signposting me to a local charity.

I have only met my health visitor a few times but think she will be out in next week or so. Sorry to hear about your PND.

You should have a number you can call if you need them. Mine were all by phone call though as it was pandemic.

Thank you. I am grateful it is not during lockdown as that would be even worse!
