I've got my postnatal check with the GP coming up, but I don't know whether to try to be seen sooner.
Gave birth 7 weeks ago to my second baby. Fast and furious late stage labour, but no tearing or stitches. Natural third stage, but I bled a lot in the hours after birth and ended up getting the injection to encourage my uterus to contract more quickly.
Bleeding has gradually tapered off, but since about week 5 I've had intermittent, bright red blood. No clots, but two occasions of small amounts of stringy tissue-like stuff (sorry for the TMI). I actually assumed it was my period but it's just started up again, a week later. I'm having some very dull cramps and aches as well.
I've just realised that these episodes of bleeding have coincided with mastitis-like symptoms. I've got a lot of pain in one breast, a red patch and flu-like symptoms. No lumps, so not sure it's a blocked duct. I had precisely the same thing a week ago but it got better on its own within a couple of days.
Could they be linked? I feel pretty unwell but I don't know whether to bother trying to access a GP over the weekend. I'm confident in managing the mastitis, it's a familiar enemy from breastfeeding my first! It's just the overlap with the bleeding that's worried me a bit (and the bleeding in and of itself).
