I am 7 weeks postpartum and I have this wobbly / dizzy feeling when I walk outside. Is this normal?

I had a c section

I had this, at first they told me it was tiredness but I pushed because it didn’t feel right, got a blood test and it was my iron levels.

Is it just outside?

StormInAGinGlass · 17/08/2021 00:40

Oh I was just about to say I had a section too! Another part could be because you’ve had to “rest” for a while and your body adjusting

dreamingdream · 17/08/2021 05:23

@StormInAGinGlass I am taking iron tablets 210mg ferrous fumarate and I still feel wobbly and dizzy when I walk outside, I almost fell over twice on the street, I had a panic attack after nearly tripping over.

It could be the resting and body adjusting post-surgery as you've said. But how long does this wobbly/dizziness last? I have had it for 7 weeks so far.

Are you eating properly or regularly? I found after my c-section I would get terrible wobbly feelings and just need to sit down and have a snack.

Don't underestimate how much rest is needed. I remember feeling wobbly and faint at 6-8 weeks but that had largely gone away by 4 months

StormInAGinGlass · 20/08/2021 17:01

Yeah my wobbles lasted a good few months to be fair but I’d definitely push with your HV or GP to find out the reason

I had these too! I thought I was going mad!
Mine stopped around 6 months pp.
they were horrible tbh, I felt dizzy, I could feel my heart beating in my head and just out of it.
You'll get better!!

Did this resolve for you @dreamingdream I am 13 weeks postpartum and have the same thing

SmileyClare · 29/05/2023 13:59

This may be in part due to post natal anxiety or depression, particularly as you say you had a panic attack when you went outside.

Sometimes dizziness from anxiety is literally caused by not breathing properly. and can be avoided by concentrating on breathing techniques.
Speak to your midwife if you think anxiety is contributing, you’ve just given birth so it’s very common x

That said, I felt a bit wobbly on my feet for a couple of weeks pp simply because I no longer had a huge bump and my centre of gravity felt different, if that makes sense !

Could be the iron tablets. Always made me feel nauseous and shaky. Had to switch to spatone water instead.

SmileyClare · 29/05/2023 14:17

Do you get the same feeling at home walking around? Say if you stand up suddenly or get out of the bath quickly?

When outside, gripping a pram definitely helped me when I felt a bit wobbly and wearing flat shoes or trainers makes you feel a bit safer!
Do you have support / a partner or family around? I’d hate to think you weren’t going out because you’re panicking about falling over.
