Sex after birth ... ouch!

I gave birth to my second child almost 3 months ago, and last night my husband and I tried to have sex for the first time. I really really wanted to have sex and I wasn't expecting to have any issues down there at all, but when he tried to put it in, it was sooooo painful! It felt like I had tiny cuts inside me and someone was rubbing them all over (sorry for the detailed description lol). My hubby couldn't even get it all in as I had to tell him to stop. I didn't experience this with my first, and I'm lost with what to do. Really want to get things back to "normal" with my hubby and I, and this has thrown a curve ball. Anyone else experienced this before? Help! X

Did you feel quite tense because you were nervous? I remember my first time after giving birth being very uncomfortable initially too. Was there enough lubrication etc?

No I wouldn't say I was nervous, I really wanted to do it. Just feel disappointed now as it's been such a long time for hubby and I, and we finally had a long overdue moment to ourselves, and it didn't go as I'd expected. Now I feel nervous to try again. I was pretty wet too as we played a bit before, so I don't think I was dry. Thanks for your help x

Did you have stitches for a tear or episiotomy, OP? Everything would normally be well healed by 3 months, so you need to see your GP if this pain persists on future attempts at intercourse.

Are you breastfeeding? That can make you very dry down there. Did you use lube? Try plenty of lube next time! If it's still painful then do see your GP.

If you've had an episiotomy or tear and been stitched things can feel quite tight when you start having sex again. But it shouldn't be painful.

I had a tiny tiny cut which didn't actually need stitches, but I had a couple just to avoid any infection. That's why I was surprised it hurt.

Yes I am breastfeeding and I didn't realise it could leave you dry. I didn't feel dry but maybe I was 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'll get some lube then and see if that helps. Thanks :-)
