Itchy skin - low iron?

My second baby is six months and she's EBF plus two small meals of solids a day (not actually swallowing much yet) - she's a big old chunk on the 98th centile so is taking a lot of milk from me and wakes for 2-3 feeds every night too.

I'm absolutely shattered - to be expected - but the last few days I've been suffering with really itchy skin all over. It's not horrific but slightly distracting and my clothes feel uncomfortable on.

Someone said I could be low on iron. Has anyone got any experience of itching like this?

I had this recently at around 6-8 weeks postpartum and i did actually have low iron (was on iron tablets at the time) but I didn't connect the two until I read this!

Did it go away with iron tAblets? How long did it take to go?

I think I'll call the dr tomorrow and ask for bloods just to check everything

I had already been on iron for a few weeks when this started, so not entirely convinced it was only that. I assumed it was related to tiredness. I started taking an antihistamine at bedtime and it has been ok since. Best to get yourself checked out though

Thanks, I don't know why it's suddenly started and it's so annoying. I can't take antihistamines because I'm breastfeeding. I will speak to the GP. Are you still taking the antihistamine now?

Yes I take one at night if I remember but on the occasions I've forgotten I didn't get itchy so I think it's resolved now (incidentally my iron is ok and I've stopped the pills.....)

I had itchy skin and asked the doctor for a blood test to check my hormones thinking I just had a deficiency turned out I had post partum thyroidism and it was overactive, I was also very tired all the time even though my baby slept through the night ( unfortunately it’s backfired on me and she doesn’t now 😔😂🥱)
I was having bad move swings and losing weight without trying too x

Well I got my results back and all normal except raised allergy markers. Absolutely nothing in my diet, home or life has changed. No idea where to start to find the culprit...

Are there any antihistamines that are safe to take while bf?
