Intense shivering in the middle of the night

Hi all

Don't know if anyone's experienced this before? I haven't had anything like this before with my DS1.

Baby is 8 days old, last night woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I was in the Antarctic. Never ever felt so cold in all my life, then I was shaking uncontrollably for probably 5 minutes on and off, then had hot sweats then fell back to sleep.

What on earth could this of been? It scared the life out of me. My c section wound is fine, I am trying to breast feed but I have no redness/pain with them. X

I had the exact same after both my babies. Intense shivering. Full body shaking in the middle of the night.

It only lasted a few days.

I had this, such intense shivering I could not control, teeth chattering. I'm sure I read at the time it was due to my milk coming in.

Not to panic you but I had this and had a secondary haemmorhage at home! I had never felt so cold in my life. I had it while I was in hospital and said to the midwives about it. It's apparently quite a common symptom.

This sounds like mastitis. I had the same and needed antibiotics.

I had this, alternating with sweats and I didn’t have a section, I was BF.
I’m sure it was hormones but be careful as you do have potential for infection. But if it isn’t happening often and you feel well otherwise it’s probably nothing.

Could you have mastitis?

I had this post C section . Turned out I had a water infection that took 3 rounds of antibiotics to shake ! Everything hurt so much I just hadn't realised Confused

I had this, thought it was night sweats, turned out to be a breast abscess. Didn’t look too horrendous from the outside but underneath it was quite nasty and took a long time to sort out. Please get advice. My health visitor (for the subsequent baby) said the best thing if I felt ill would be to call the GP and say “I’ve recently given birth and I don’t feel well”, she reckoned that would spring them into action.
