Postpartum insomnia - baby sleeping but I’m not! 😫

Hi mums, I have a 5month old baby who’s now sleeping pretty well at night but I’m not! :( He’s EBF so I wake for his feed at about midnight and then I’m awake for the night and don’t understand why? I have been feeling pretty low in the day with a feeling of dread (for no reason) so wonder if it’s PND. But I’m also having slight period pains and hot flushes at night so could it be a hormonal thing? Anyone had similar? 🤔

@Raruneso2020 I feel your pain 😓❤️ My sleep has been the same since my third trimester 😔
Are you getting hot flushes all night or specifically while you’re feeding? My hot flushes while baby was latched on were ridiculous 😳 specifically my legs and feed!
Definitely contact your health visitor or gp about the feelings you’re having during the day. It might not be PND but if it is then hopefully you can get help ASAP!

@RWK29 how olds your baby now? How are you coping with no sleep... sleep deprivation is torture 😭 my hot flushes are after a feed and then I’m just wide awake!

My little one is 12 weeks. Have just had to stop breast feeding and give expressed milk in bottles so I’m now also having to express during the night so I’m even more awake 🙈 sleep deprivation definitely is torture. DH works away too so it’s just me and baby here for a few weeks. He also still wakes lots in the night which doesn’t help.
The hot flushes are awful! Definitely have a chat with your health visitor or gp about how you’re feeling! 😊

I've just been to the doctor about this! My baby only wakes once for a feed but I was finding it impossible to get off to sleep at night and again to get to sleep after the feed. Some nights I'm only getting 2-3 hours and it leaves me insanely tired the next day and dreading night time! I'm not depressed at all, in fact I'm the opposite really - feeling happy abs content with my baby so no idea what's causing it.

My doctor prescribed me amitriptyline 10mg to take at night for sleep. I've taken it before for sleep and it's worked and it's safe while breastfeeding. Tonight is my second night taking it and I already feel better having got 5 hours sleep under my belt before the night feed.

My doctor says I just need to break the cycle of sleeplessness because I was going to bed every night anticipating I wouldn't sleep and that was exasperating the problem. I don't intend to take them long term or even every night, but I already feel more relaxed knowing I have the option to take them and get some sleep. My advice would be to speak to your gp - it's made all the difference to me.

@RWK29 wow well done you for still expressing!! Pumping can be hard work! Fingers crossed now your little one has hit 12 weeks the sleeping will get better! 🤞🏻 Thank you, yup I’ll speak to the docs. X

@Aria2015 ah I was wondering if I may need some help to break the sleepless cycle too. I don’t feel depressed at night, just frustrated that I’m wide awake!! Will deffo see what docs say. Hope your sleep continues! ☺️
