Anyone ever taken a sleeping pill when breastfeeding

Am thinking of having one and jjst using the bottle the next day (he bottle feeds too) as I am desperate for a good nights sleep. Baby won't be in with me so will be looked after. Just wondering if anyone has done this and how long you waited if so? My doctor hasn't called me back yet. Thanks

I don't think it would be advised? I was prescribed sleeping pills after the birth of my son but the doctor was very careful to make sure I wasn't breastfeeding. I'll be honest they didn't help much. I could still hear my son crying and I was still awake I was just too drowsy to help him. I actually found it quite upsetting.

I’ve had night nurse which mocks me out whilst breastfeeding and was fine

Not too sure I’d do sleeping pills though

I was hoping to do this but advised not to by the doctor. They stay in your system for quite some time and it’s not worth the risk.

have you tried ear plugs?

I know it sounds simple but they make a huge difference to me -

I make sure DH has got baby’s needs covered,

  • make room v dark,
  • write a list of any thoughts/things to do that are floating around in my head (gets them out of your head so they don’t stop you from sleeping)
  • wear a pair of warm socks (cold feet = no sleep!)
  • also you could also try listening to a guided meditation (find them on Spotify)

I personally would avoid the sleeping pills x
