Painless periods after birth

I'm not complaining, but I'm wondering if this entirely normal.

So I gave birth to my son on August 12th. I did a mixture of breast feeding ( expressed breast milk from bottle) and formula feeding. I stopped expressing 2 weeks ago and my son is now entirely formula fed.

Anyway, my first period arrived 8 weeks postpartum. It came without warning, e.g.i didn't have any cramps or discomfort at all. I also didn't have PMS as in mood swings.
It also wasn't particularly strong.

Today I got my second period and it's the same again. No pain at all and just came without warning and no indications.

Is this normal?

Exactly what happened to me. 15 months on, I occasionally get some mild cramps but they're definitely lighter and pain free compared to pre-baby. They often take me by surprise.

@mynameiscalypso : I guess we're the lucky ones, hehe. I had an extremely painful birth, forceps delivery with 2.1 litre blood loss, so I'm wondering if the birth trauma "destroyed" some of my pain receptors.

Ooh that's an interesting theory! Although I had an ELCS but maybe they removed something vital for heavy/painful periods?!

This happened to me too, non traumatic birth though. But 6 years on and cramps have gradually started up again, not as bad as pre children though. Got to be some physical perks of childbearing I guess!

I've always suffered with really painful periods. I'd usually spend at least the first day bed ridden with a hot water bottle and lots of pain relief! After having my son my periods returned when he was 6 months old and they were and have been completely pain free!! He's 20 months old now and I hope it stays this way!!

On another note, I had a traumatic labour, suction delivery and 4th degree tear so that is a really interesting theory!

Yes agree with PP - I had pain free periods for years after kids but now (9 years on from last birth) they are back again - hope it won't be the same for you but enjoy it while it lasts!

My eldest is 17 and I have had one painful period since have him and some are mildly uncomfortable before children they were horrendous! It was a rather extreme cure!

Not unusual. I believe the Ancient Greeks thought period pains were the womb roaming around the body looking for sperm and a good cure for period pain was to have a baby.

That's so interesting that lots of other ladies experience the same. I guess there must be some perks to childbirth x
