Retained products left to work their way out?

My postnatal bleeding went on a long time. It lightened up but didn't stop, it became intermittent maybe about 11-12 weeks postpartum. I'm 15 weeks pp now and still get random gushes of dark brown or light pink. As recent as 10 days ago I had to change my trousers because of an unexpected gush.

My GP referred me for an ultrasound and the hospital have said I've got retained products due to a brightness they can see on the lining of my uterus. They have said because I'm not in pain and don't have a fever I can be left as I am and hopefully they will work their way out. They weren't able to reassure me and said any problems with periods go back to my GP. They didn't seem to appreciate that I don't have normal periods due to PCOS, and that as I'm breastfeeding it could still be a while before I have a period.

Has this happened to anybody else? It doesn't feel right that there are things there that shouldn't be, and that they're just being left? I have fertility issues and DD was a clomid baby. I don't know if we will try for more DC or not, but I'm worried this is going to have further detrimental effects on my ability to have anymore. WWYD, would you go back to the GP, ask for a follow up scan in a few months? Do nothing, as it's quite common and just not talked about?

I would definitely ask for a second opinion OP!

I too have retained tissue, I had my first big “gush” of blood/tissue/clots 10 days post birth so I was still in time for maternity triage, they sent me for an ultrasound the next day and a follow up a week later, it showed I passed some of the tissue so they said that would indicate I “should” pass the rest and they don’t need to re-scan. They were relaxed about it tbh and I too didn’t feel comfortable with having tissue staying there but there’s not much else I can do but wait I guess.

I did explain the first big “gush” went straight through my jeans and down my ankles so I was worried that would happen again, they couldn’t promise me it wouldn’t do. As it happens luckily it hasn’t happened so far and I’m now 6 weeks post birth and have noticed I’ve passed a few clots the last few weeks so I’m going to guess that’s some of the tissue?

Maybe ask for another scan to see if any of the tissue has gone since the last one? X
