Cord infected ? 4 days old so worried

Hey,

I am really concerned I was not told that babys nappy should be under the cord until today. I have noticed the area of skin where the cord comes out is red and the part where the cord is attached to the belly has some clear fluid in it - like when you get a blister and it is a clear ooze fluid.

Should I be concerned about this? She has soiled over it a few times too which I have cleaned with Luke warm water. Photos attached

Thanks

I think they just go like that before falling off? Ask the midwife if you’re worried.

It looks a bit red on the first picture but the 2nd picture looks OK. But if you are concerned call the maternity unit, they will happily check over a baby. Or you should be seeing a midwife tomorrow for a a day 5 way anyway so make sure you ask them.

Signs of infection to look out for are redness, heat, or oozing/pus.
Clean it gently with cooled boiled water and cotton wool, and send a pic to the midwife who may probably suggest that the GP have a look tomorrow. And keep it dry and clean.

Don’t worry too much in the meantime though 💐

I would defo get it checked but I’m pretty sure my sons looked the same before it dropped off. It does look pretty nasty before it drops off. I remember it stank something rotten. But the midwife assured me it was fine & they can’t feel anything from it so if they cry they’re just being dramatic haha.

My little ones looked similar to that but also oozed puss too. I was told it's normal. Don't put anything on it until it drops off and then after clean with cotton wool and cool boiled water and let the air to it
