North West Human Milk Bank

Does anyone here donate breast milk to North West Human Milk Bank?

I always intended to donate breast milk when I had my first, but hadn't realised you have to start when they're still small, so I looked into it too late. This time round I would like to be more organised so I've started thinking about it now (currently 12 weeks pregnant).

Few questions..,,

  • Do the Milk Bank provide bottles / bags for storage? I'm guessing it could get pretty expensive to buy these to donate every month.
  • Do they insist on a particular breast pump, or can you just use whichever you like?
  • I know some medications can stop you donating. I'm currently on Ferrous Fumarate (iron); does anyone know if this would be ok?
  • The website says to have freezer space for 20 - 30 bottles. That sounds like a lot. Would one freezer drawer / shelf be sufficient or do I need more space?

Any other advice or tips welcome. Thank you x

I used bags; double bag I guess if uncertain. they didn't cost much.

Sorry I donated a long time ago, but there should be information sheets from the bank for prospective donors. Ring them up to ask those questions?
