How do I know if this is my period?

Hi, I had a baby 6 weeks ago today via c section. I've had lochia on and off since. However about about two weeks ago I had bad period cramps and thought my period was going to arrive. There was no change in the bleeding - until a good week later - it's red now so is this my period? How are you meant to know?

For the first 2 months I had period like cramps off and on, my HV said that it was just the uterus contracting back down. I often felt it most while BF, which is apparently common - something about the hormones it releases. The bleeding was similar for me, as it slowed it became more red. But that was just the end of normal discharge

Should've said that I'm formula feeding..

That shouldn't matter - your cervix has to contract back either way. I think the feeling can just be intensified during BF

Ah I see. Thanks
