Breast milk coming out a year later.

Hi all,

Im a bit baffled by this but last night I went to have a shower and I noticed some white drops on my nipples.
Upon inspection and a bit of squeezing it looks like breast milk (quite a bit was coming out when I was squeezing), but I stopped breastfeeding exactly 1 year ago and haven't had anything like this in that time.
I've used google and it's said some women get this during the weaning process but also said it could be a symptom of some underlying heath condition.
Has anyone else had this so long after?

Could you be pregnant?

FeedMeWell · 22/02/2019 22:52

I did for ages (at least 18 months) after weaning and it was fine. Checked out with doctor after a year and it was nothing to worry about.

Lulu2106 · 23/02/2019 00:09

Definitely not pregnant. I was a bit concerned as there hasn't been one drop all year (obviously after the initial weaning stage) and then suddenly I'm seeing milk a whole year later.

I would check it out with your GP just in case - chances are it’snothing but best to doublecheck.

I stopped by about 2.5 years ago. I'm similar to you re milk. I've put it down to perimenopausal hormone madness.

I was thinking about seeing my gp about it. I will call up on Monday for an appointment. Thank you for your replies.

I had this with DS. Didn’t think anything of it really

I can squeeze my nipples now 5 yrs after stopping breastfeeding and milk comes!!! Odd

StarDanced · 07/03/2019 21:55

I would definitely see your gp. I had this 7months after stopping breastfeeding and got quickly referred for scans ect. Everything came back fine and it was just hormonal, but it is definitely something that needs to be checked out.

MissOrganisedMe · 07/03/2019 22:01

I'm sure I read somewhere that you keep making milk for as long as you nursed for .....

Lulu2106 · 08/03/2019 00:10

I ended up speaking to my gp who said I needed to have a breast check and a blood test. I have an appointment next week for these, so hopefully all comes back fine.
