How to dress a newborn?

Literally, how do you pull their arms through long sleeves on cardis/etc? I've got no problems with vests and sleepsuits but when we try to put DD in her pramsuit, cardigan, etc she bends her elbow and I can't straighten it out. They are too thick to roll up as I do on babygrows. Any tips for making this bit easier? Cxx

I used to put my fingers down the end of the sleeve to meet her hand halfway, then shimmy the sleeve along while holding her hand.
Also got a "star wrap" instead of a pramsuit for no.2...massive batwing sleeves!

Bundle the sleeve right up and put their hand through, then pull it back down their arm.

Really hard to explain in text form though!

Thank you, I've tried the bundling but the fabric is so thick (quilted) that it just traps her arm and she's stuck like a little scarecrow Confused Or is there another way?

Just use thinner multiple layers. If she is out in the puschair just layer blankets over her. If she is in the car she should be in a thin layer rather than padded anyways. Tin blanket over once clipped in.

With both my babies i just kept them in sleep suits for a few months as i was scared to put them in anything more complicated lol and tbh the outfits are more for us than them, sleeps suits indoors and add a pram suit if going outside = winwin

I just put mine in babygrows and cardigans and loads of blankets. I've never bothered with clothes clothes until they're a few months old, too much faff

Hold her arm at the elbow and guide her arm in, using your other hand to hold her hand and pull her arm through.

Some outerwear is designed very badly and made from the wrong fabric. Only yesterday did I buy a new snowsuit for 3mo for this exact reason as the poor mite was resembling a scarecrow michelin man as the original one was about 5cm thick.

Agree that it's so much easier for them to live in sleepsuits for as long as possible. I do like a cardigan in this cold weather though.

Instead of a snow/pram suit, try a travel hoodie. They are so much easier Smile

We have a snuggle bundle which is similar to the hoodie. As said it's easier than trying to get a newborn into a pram suit!
