Which fenugreek to buy?

2lilcherubs · 26/10/2018 21:51

I'd like to try fenugreek to boost my milk supply but unsure where to buy from or how much to take.

Any recommendations?
Extra points for links😊

No advice but if you smell celery, that'll be you. I stank when I was taking it.

fuzzywuzzy · 26/10/2018 21:56

I personally just buy a large pack of fenugreek seeds from Tesco (world foods aisle), lightly crush it and boil it, let it sit for a bit strain add honey and drink.

It’s not the nicest thing I’ve ever drunk but it works.

Holland and Barrett do capsules.

2lilcherubs · 26/10/2018 22:22

Thanks,
How much do I take both on capsules and seeds.

I don't fancy smelling but the smell will stop when I stop taking them once supply has increased?

For some people fenugreek can cause your supply to drop, so please be careful with it. There are no foods or supplements that are proven to up supply. The best way to increase supply is feed/pump as much as you can and lots of skin to skin. If supply is really low then domperidone can be prescribed but can have horrible side effects.

Pebblespony · 26/10/2018 22:28

The smell stopped when I stopped taking them. My supply went up but by then I'd had it with breast feeding.

2lilcherubs · 27/10/2018 16:44

How long does it take for supply to go up?

I seem to have a lull in supply at some point everyday between 12-5pm. Baby ends up very unhappy and crying a lot at breast and won't stop trying to feed. If I hand express nothing comes out unlike other times of the day, even after a big feed.

How old is baby? Supply can take 6-8 weeks to regulate.

my3bears · 27/10/2018 21:06

Don't buy it. For some it can even decrease supply. The only thing that will increase is demand - feed feed feed. Drink, eat and rest when you can.

Raviolisauce · 27/10/2018 21:24

My baby is 8weeks old. We went 2days with no issues now back to struggling with low supply in the afternoon. Some days we are find ours I don't have enough.
I'm eating, drinking plenty as resting as much as possible

TrashPanda · 27/10/2018 22:33

Is baby putting on weight and producing regular wet and dirty nappies? If they are then I don't think it's a supply problem. Fussiness at the breast in the afternoon/evening is cluster feeding where baby is trying to up your milk production, it's normal in phases. Do you supplement with expressed milk or formula at all or use a dummy?

Shelley54 · 28/10/2018 20:25

I was taking 12 capsules a day. It did nothing for me at all.

You’re meant to up the dose until you smell of maple syrup. Within 48hrs it’s meant to have any effect it’s ever going to.

It can cause problems with blood sugar levels in you and wind/gas in baby.

fuzzywuzzy · 28/10/2018 20:32

I also made fennel tea, slightly more pleasant and very good for wind in babies

I would highly recommend boobix cookies or bars. I've tried a pack of the biscuits and it made a massive difference in about two days, fenugreek never worked for me and just made me smell Blush I can't afford to buy them all the time but am going to try and make my own soon x

2lilcherubs · 31/10/2018 12:57

@fuzzyduck21 thanks for suggestion, where did you get them from and how much do you eat?

OP posts:
Fuzzyduck21 · 31/10/2018 14:12

@2lilcherubs I only had 1 cookie a day but they recommend 2. I discovered them on Instagram but just went onto the website to buy. If you Google boobix you'll find them x

2lilcherubs · 31/10/2018 14:36

@fuzzyducks21 Thanks very much i might order some tonight

They aren't the cheapest but they're the only thing I found to work. There's a recipe in holly Willoughby baby book which has almost same main ingredients so cam always send it over if you like them and you can try making your own! That's next on my list if my Velcro non sleeping baby ever gives me 20 mins. Shame they don't do a cookie for that....x

2lilcherubs · 31/10/2018 16:14

I'm with you with the velcro baby if I get a minute I spent it on my toddler.
I'll try these see how I get on. Is it a case of once you stop eating them your supply drops or just becomes normal supply/demand.

Quite excited to try them since I love cookies haha

I found that when I stopped eating them my boobs felt less full unfortunately :( same with the fenugreek - think when you stop taking them everything returns to how it was. Annoying x
