Hospital shaved baby's hair. How long before it grows back

My newborn baby boy has really been through the mill. After a difficult labour we were both given a cannula each for antibiotics, as my temperature went up after giving birth and they were worried about an infection. The cannula was put in his arm, but failed to work after a few days. They couldn't get a vein in his other arm or legs, so resorted to putting one in his head. I sobbed when they did it, as he was screaming. They also shaved two patches of hair, which upset me as he was born with a full head of beautiful dark brown hair, but understood his health was more important.

Now he has been given a clean bill of health I want to know how long his hair will take to grow back. Because the rest of his hair is so thick and dark is does really stand out. I know it's silly to say this, but it feels like a reminder of what he went through and makes me feel like I failed him. I don't take pictures of him without him wearing a hat, because I don't want anyone to make mean comments. Does anyone know if and when it will grow back?

Aww the poor wee thing. Congratulations on your baby and you must be so relieved he’s on the mend. Baby hair often falls out anyway and will grow back.

Shaved hair will of course grow back, and as soon as there's a covering (probably in a few weeks) it won't be as noticeable. Newborns tend to have a change in their hair colour/texture after a month or two anyway so this will probably put it all behind you.

It's bound to be tough these early days given what you went through but the hair will grow back soon enough and the shaved spots will be a distant memory.
Enjoy your newborn and hope your recovery goes well

Sorry you had a rough start.
Would it be worth shaving it all off so its less obvious? It will grow back even then x

Baby hair often all falls out anyway so give it a couple of weeks.

And take some photos of him with it. It’s how he is now and when he’s older he might want to see what / where. It’s a record of him now and you won’t get another one. Also, think of the message you want to send him when he’s older. It’s not “I didn’t let anyone see you like that” it’s “be proud of how you are”..:
