Hi
3 days post ELCS I started reporting high blood pressure 177/90, 185/90. I was sent to A&E checked for PE which was not evident and then prescribed Labetalol 200mg twice a day. Next day midwife visited and BP was high again with meds, although was just before next dose due. Obgyn consulted and increased to 200mg three times a day. Now on 400mg twice a day and looks stable. Doc reckons I may be on this medication for around 4 weeks. Concerned about side effects, effects on baby ( exclusively breastfeeding) and on my hair! Heard this can cause hair loss. Can anyone tell me if they took Labetalol short term, 4/5 weeks, did they lose hair and if breastfeeding did you notice any effect on your baby?

Thanks

I’ve taken Labetalol for 7 years through two pregnancies and years of BFing. There were absolutely no I’ll effects on my babies and definitely no hair loss. The only side effect I’ve ever had was tingling feelings in my scalp when I first started taking it and adjustment to dosage.

Hope that reassures you a little, MJT Smile

I took labetalol for around 4 years with no side effects. It's safe for both during pregnancy and while breastfeeding which is why they use it. No hair loss at all for me.
