My DS was born last Saturday and I got the usual mild period-type lower abdominal pains for 2-3 days afterwards, usually while feeding him. My uterus has shrunk right down and I thought the pains had completely stopped.
However, the last couple of days I've had a few episodes of really severe stitch-like stabbing pain radiating out from the sides of my lower abdomen - kind of where the ovaries are if that makes sense. It starts like a niggling trapped wind feeling but builds until it's really painful and makes it tricky to walk or breathe normally. I've had it on both sides, but only one side at a time, and it does seem to be brought on by breastfeeding. It lasts much longer than the previous cramping though - it happened while out yesterday afternoon and even though it eased off after half an hour or so, I've not felt right since and it's just happened again to a lesser extent and I can still feel the niggling pain even though the brunt of it has worn off.
I've got a midwife appointment on Tues for DS' 10-day checks but I'm wondering if it's worth calling before then about this? Any ideas what could be causing it? I know afterpains can be worse after a second baby but it seems strange that they'd gone completely for a few days and now these different, stronger and longer-lasting pains.
