Bad pain in back and legs

Hi, I had my baby girl by C section 6 weeks ago. Since then, I've been suffering from pain in my legs, hips and lower back which seems to be getting worse. I can't walk very far any more and going up and down the stairs is so so hard. My baby weighed 9 pounds 10 at birth and is probably close to weighing a stone now. I'm only 5 ft 2 and not very strong. I suffered from SPD during pregnancy so I'm wondering if this could be the cause of the pain. In addition, I had an epidural during labour and the doctor tried three times to get the needle in, so I'm wondering if she might have caused some damage.

I'm a single parent and I am really struggling with this. I rarely go out any more as I find it so hard to walk and feel trapped in my home.

I really don't know how I'll cope as the pain is getting worse and my baby is getting heavier.

Has anyone else experienced such pain after having a baby? Does it get better in time? Did you need physio? I'd appreciate some advice.

Many thanks, Sarah

Hi Sarah, I had SPD during my pregnancy, I didn't have a c section or epidural but a few weeks after my baby was born my hips and particularly my knees were agony... I couldn't carry my little boy up or down the stairs, saw the doc who referred me to a physio, I was told to do squats and sent on my way... life didn't work out so I could get the squats done often but soon after it improved on its own anyway. It's the old hormones loosening and tightening ligaments again! 20 months since my little boy was born I still get some knee pain if I take long breaks from exercise, I'm sure one day normality will be resumed! Anyway, hope yours gets loads better soon too. You should still see your doc and see if they can refer you to a physio though... X
