I had a cesarean section one week ago.
All went to plan and pain was ok afterwards. A few hours after the c - section I noticed my catheter bag wasn't filling up even though I was drinking a serious amount of water. I mentioned it to the midwife and was told to drink more as the urine looked concentrated and the tube had urine in it. After over two full jugs of water and the fluid level in my bag hadn't changed I again told the midwife and asked for it to be removed as I could feel a pressure in my bladder and my urethra was burning. Reluctantly they removed it and j went to the toilet a few hours later and passed alot of urine. At the time it was also noted that the region on my public bone was badly bruised and so swollen that I couldn't close my legs properly.
All was fine was discharged 48 hours after my operation and my wound pain since then has gotten better and better to the point I've not needed pain relief for a few days now.
However I haven't had the sensation of a full bladder since then despite drinking lots but if I go to the bathroom I urinate. I started feeling a bit of a burning sensation when urinating and my midwife took a urine sample which was sent off on Monday afternoon and I'm waiting on the result.
However since yesterday the burning has gotten worse, my vagina also feels like it's burning and my lochia was starting to smell a bit.
Today my lochia smells like a dead animal, I've still got no sensation to urinate but it burns like hell when I do and as the day has worn on until now my wound which previously had no pain is stinging and tingly and the area over my public bone is red, swollen and painful to touch. My abdomin is a bit tender too.
My GP has said they will write a prescription for antibiotics tomorrow for a UTI but I'm worried that it might be something more. I've had to take pain relief and my DH has said I'm walking like John Wayne.
Has anyone else had similar? This is my first DC so I'm not sure if this normal or not after a section and if not am I ok to wait until tomorrow and see if the antibiotics work?
DH wants to ring NHS direct or the maternity unit but I don't want to put people to trouble if it's not needed.
What would you do?
