Absolutely terrified to be left alone with baby!

I know a few people may know my background but long story short my daughter was born with CDH, which comes with a 50/50 chance of survival and she wasn't diagnosed until I was 36 weeks. She was in nicu for 2 weeks and had a repair surgery on day 6 which went well. Against all the odds we got her home when she was 2 weeks and 6 days old. She's been homes for three days now and I'm a mess.

I'm terrified of being on my own with her, can't work out why she's crying if it's a normal baby reason or if it's CDH related. It's driving me up the wall and my husband is back at work now I'm just terrified. Is this normal first time mum behaviour?! How do I manage it?

Yes, it's normal. For both of you. New babies are stressful, life as a newborn is stressful. And all the more so with what has happened with you. However, when there has been a medical issue it's best to eliminate it as a cause of concern. Can you ring the department who treated her? Do you have a health visitor who can help out? Is there a specific support group or on line forum for your baby's condition? Have you contacted Bliss? They are a charity for prem and ill babies.
