Tongue tie in 4 week old baby

Hiya so I noticed my baby has tongue tie. He feeds well and is gaining weight well. He is bottle fed formula. He is on 50 centile. He does feed every 1.5 - 2 hours still and has around 2-4oz.

The midwife took a look yesterday and said he does have tounge tie. I have booked to take him for a consultation privately on Monday. If she thinks he needs it cut then she will do that on Monday too.

I have read other posts saying procedure isn’t that bad but I am really dreading it.

just looking for others stories of tongue tie and how babies were after? I’m hoping he doesn’t need it cut but I think he will.

Hi. It’s usually a quick easy procedure - depends on how severe it is

try and not worry

they look. Cut and then feed

You may not want to watch it being done. If you feel upset during the procedure just remind yourself it's for their wellbeing.
My DC unfortunately had to have it done twice as it reattached. Not sure if things have changed but a quick feed afterwards and all was good.
I was breastfeeding at the time and the difference it made was immense.

All three of mine had significant tongue ties (2 had 90%, one had 80%) and had the snip. Very quick and easy, my youngest who had it done at a week and a half (she also had jaundice, so we wanted to make sure her TT wasn’t also impacting her feeding and sleepiness) didn’t even seem to notice the snip and I didn’t see any blood afterwards either. Definitely worth doing if it seems to be affecting her feeding.

My youngest had a significant tongue tie that was impairing his ability to feed. It was snipped at 2 weeks old. Honestly it was fine. It was very quick then I plonked him on the boob (the bottle will work too) and that was that. I don’t recall him being unsettled afterwards and it made feeding much easier for him. He was feeding ok but finding it exhausting
