On maternity leave in lockdown - solidarity thread

Hi
Sure there must be another similar thread somewhere but just in case there isn't I thought I'd start a thread for those of us on maternity leave whilst in lockdown

I think it's just started to get to me
I just finished my uni work for this year and feel at a loose end
Really want to take ds to see the rest of the family especially his great grandmother who is very much in mourning after the death of my mother a week after he was born
I'm getting really really bored now

I was planning to go back in September. Fortunately I don't have too which is a bloody good job thankfully as I stand no chance of sorting out childcare before then, although I don't think I'm cut out to be a stay at home mum full time.

Must be in the air today as I'm struggling too. Haven't even made it out of my pyjamas and it's now 8pm. Little man has been so clingy, his skin seems to be getting worse instead of better despite the new cream from the doc, he's still bringing up milk after his feeds despite the Gaviscon and just aaaaargh, feels like everything that can go wrong is going wrong.
I don't have any friends with babies (took me a long time for this one to come along so 12 years between him and his brother), but I'd kill just to sit and have a coffee with the girls!

I never thought I'd miss HV's so much as well!! I've weighed little one on bathroom scales but I don't know if they're accurate or not (if they are he's only gained 1lb 8oz in 7 weeks) so I've got no idea of the being sick etc is affecting his weight. I've called HV but it's a new one I've never met and to be honest it wasn't entirely helpful at all ☹️

TinySleepThief · 18/05/2020 10:45

I hope everyone is feeling a little better today. So far DS hasnt been too bad although he did an explosive poo so now his bouncer is outside drying off in the sun. However I've managed to shower whilst he napped so I'm taking that as a positive!!

I went to bed last night at 8 with a headache though as he has now started shrieking which is a fun new developmental leap. Grin

IFeelTheNeedTheNeedForSleep I recommend getting a set of digital scales. We ordered some from Amazon for less than 20 quid and they have been so helpful in allowing us to track if DS is gaining weight. Probably one of the top 5 best baby things we've purchased so far.

Comps83 · 18/05/2020 11:18

I got ds down at 9 last night
He then woke up at 9.30 then again at 2 and then again at 5 and then 7
I also had to take pain killers due to a headache caused by the high pitched shouting he's started doing

Thanks @TinySleepThief I'll have a look at amazon and pick up some scales!!

Not too bad here today. I had this awful dream last night though that I'd taken him to work with me (in my handbag?) and didn't realise until the end of the day that I'd left him at home on his own so was completely freaking. Every time I woke up and went back to sleep the dream picked up again 😱

Hope you're all having a good day!

I'm still fed up
I don't want this to be the 'new normal'
And I can't see how this will ever end
Just got a text from our gp saying if you don't wear a face mask for appts you will be turned away
I don't own a face mask

IFeelTheNeedTheNeedForSleep · 18/05/2020 17:44

@Comps83 my husband bought some on amazon fairly cheaply (I think they were £10 for 10 roughly)
I know what you mean though, I am desperate to get back to normal so the thought of this being the new normal is horrific ☹️

Comps83 · 19/05/2020 17:30

I just cut my own hair
It was such a state and was falling out
Was constantly finding it on the baby and he kept grabbing at it

@Comps83 I wish I was brave enough to do mine! It's gotten so long it's just a constant tangled mess even when I keep it tied up (probably worse because I've got really thick hair) - it's like it's either shedding or tying itself in knots! 😳

So pleased To have found this thread - hope you are all feeling a little better. DS (first baby) now nearly 15 weeks. Been inside for 17 weeks pretty much.
Feel down, robbed of the maternity leave I was looking forward to, worried about DS Develolment as we don’t see other people and there is so little structure that I can’t bring myself to take charge of the day- he isn’t learning to settle himself at all. I am
Now nervous of going out lest (a) we are exposed to the virus and (b) he cries and I can’t settle him and we have a terrible day.

I don’t want to accept that this (distancing, masks, nothing open, crashed economy, is our new normal because it sucks.
Feel really down about it today.

Rosebel · 24/07/2020 20:05

Yes its absolutely rubbish. This is my 3rd and last baby. Had my maternity leave planned but it's all gone to pot.
No groups, all my friends and family have older children (my two eldest are 12 and 14 and their children are about the same age). We have seen family a few times but obviously no cuddles or anything.
Hate being stuck inside just have a constant stress headache. Worried about finding childcare although I'm hoping to be off until Christmas.
Just feels so isolating, he's only 7 weeks old but feel so unsupported. Don't even get to see the health visitor or get him weighed

happygolucky6 · 24/07/2020 20:16

Glad I've found this thread also. First and only baby (fertility issues) was born 12 days ago. Feeling like my pregnancy was stolen from me and now my maternity leave.

No baby groups allowed but we could all meet in the pub and have a drink!!! Very frustrating.
