Breastfeeding but want to get pregnant

Hi ladies. My little one is 4.5 months and for a number of personal reasons, my age being one of them, my hubby and I would like to start trying ASAP for baby number 2. However I am still breastfeeding my lo and my periods have not returned. He feeds often and round the clock. I’ve tried supplementing some feeds with formula to space out breastfeeds but it hasn’t been enough to bring back my period. I am reluctant to stop breastfeeding completely as I feel so guilty about doing that when he’s so little but the alternative might mean waiting many many more months before fertility returns. I’m just wondering if anyone has moved from bf to ff for this reason and how you and baby coped emotionally and physically? And did it work? Thanks in advance!

Hi I know you posted this a while ago but I was just wondering if you stopped bf? Or if you carried on and got a period. My lb is only 7 weeks and ebf i want to start trying when he is about 9 months just worried I still won't have my period back by then

@lcsj Everyone’s different in afraid. I got my period 1st time round 12wks PP and last time 10wks PP. I was exclusively pumping my first and EBF my second. You’ll just have to wait and see.

My period came back around 11 months pp but I didn't fall pregnant until I fully weaned when DS was 18mo.

Remember you are extremely fertile after giving birth up to around 6 months after birth. You don't need to have had a period to fall pregnant (I speak from experience!!)
