Best age for a baby's christening?

Our baby is nearly 4 weeks old and I was just wondering if you had any experience of what the best age might be to get a baby christened? It would be nice to have a gathering afterwards, but is it lazy to ask my parents to host it at their house? Should you keep guests to family and the godparents only or is it OK to invite friends too?

I had my daughters christening the Sunday after her 1st birthday and then everyone (friends and family) went back to my mother's house for my daughters first birthday celebrations. I'll be doing the same for my son, the christening will happen on his actual birthday.

Mine had theirs at 9, 8 and 6.5 months respectively. You're past the early baby stage and feel settled. And absolutely have friends there.

Mine were 4 months, 12 months and then a joint one to celebrate the younger 2’s 1st and 2nd birthdays. I’d intended to do that one earlier but I was just too bloody knackered! I enjoyed all of them equally.

My dd was 10 weeks and my ds was 16 weeks as he had two stays in hospital between birth and getting christened so delayed it a bit. With dd it was family in a small pub for soup and sandwiches after. With ds we invited more friends as well and had more food options and a hall with bar hired. I would definitely do it before they start solids. Who needs that mess when theyre wearing white!
