We tried at 6 wks postpartum and it was extremely painful and made me cry! (although that could be the sleep deprivation and hormones etc)

Haven't tried again since and dreading it. Do you think it gets less painful week by week?

It took about four months for me and then suddenly it was fine.

I'm 9 months pp, we now have to use lube (never did before) and to be perfectly honest the first couple of minutes are still sore and uncomfortable for me. However we first tried at 11 weeks and like you, I cried and we literally had to stop after seconds. I was terrified it would never get better but it's definitely improving. You can get a local anaesthetic cream prescribed by the GP, which I did but found it didn't come with any instructions other than "your health professional will apply this".... 😬 Suffice to say it did nothing so I didn't bother with that again!

I think I was fine about four weeks afterwards but as I have a scar down there it can be a bit sore/ uncomfortable to start but it eases off very quickly.

(Meant to add in my post I've also got an episiotomy scar and stitches that opened after 4 days) 😬 No one warns you about this kind of stuff at antenatal classes do they? !!

@mummabubs. Also had an episiotomy which they didn't actually mention in our nct, we didn't ask though. Was a big focus on induction and pain relief and just the normal bleeding postnataly. I also dropped a bloodclot almost as big as my babys head the first time I went to the loo (I had an epidural and a cathater,. As. Well as low heart rate at the end of labour and imedeatly after birth so had to stay in bed for most of the first day) I'm so glad I'd read about large clots that on mumsnet before. I'm 8 weeks sex was slightly painful when we tried it last week so we stopped. After my GP check up I believe in having my first period, dispite breastfeeding as I'm supplementing with formula for nighttime.

we waited 3 weeks but I'd had a emergency section so different circumstances I had no pain at all and would have had it earlier but my husband wanted to wait. I would use lots of lube and just go very slowly and see how you go

I had an episiotomy and forceps 2 years ago and can say that it was quite painful for the first 4-6 months. Not unbearable but sore at times. Took a full year to be pain free totally during sex but I can still feel my scar sometimes.

Incidentally I had an EMCS first time around and sex was still sore for a few months after which really surprised me. Probably nature's way of not having babies too close to eachother!

10 weeks on and starting to improve now!
