5 week old newborn and faint positive pregnancy test

Hi Everyone

I posted this in conception at first but not sure if that was the best place. Maybe this isn't the right place either!

Anyway, I'm looking for any experiences or knowledge on this subject please.

Had my 2nd baby boy 5 weeks and 2 days ago. Husband and I have had sex once (pulled out) 2 days before baby turned 3 weeks old, so 12 days ago now.

The last 5 days or so I've had some symptoms I recognise from the week before I tested positive with both my children... ovary twinges, feeeling faint, spotting, weird dreams etc. Have just had a "feeling" so did a test today and although faint, it appears to be positive!

I'm not asking IF it's possible that I could be pregnant. I know the answer to that one! If I am, I'm sure we'll be fine with it once it's sunk in!

I'm just wondering if a positive pregnancy test at this stage after birth can be entirely trusted. I'm trying to find info on if hcg levels remain raised for some time after pregnancy and birth but it's all a bit confusing and varying answers.

Thanks!

Hi everyone
So sorry, I really should have updated. I hate when the thread is just left hanging! I didn't realise there had been any more posts until just now.
I wasn't pregnant in the end. The tests got darker and darker (really dark full on positives) over the space of a week or so and we accepted that it was a definite positive, then I started spotting and eventually my period started and the tests started getting lighter and then negative. I had a scan eventually so they could double check everything but no pregnancy. They said it could have been a chemical pregnancy or could have just been left over hormones from the pregnancy. One of those things will never know though.

How do you feel?

Lucyjm84 · 06/09/2018 22:27

I'm fine, thanks for asking. The whole thing from the first faint positive to having the scan and then getting my period was over about a 2 - 2.5 week timespan and the first week of that I wasn't even sure if they were definitely bfp's. So although we did eventually get our heads around the idea of another baby (when the tests got really dark) and had started to feel happy about it all, I dont think it ever really had a chance to properly sink in. I think because the doctor said they couldn't say either way whether it had been a very early pregnancy or if it was just residual hcg from my little boy, it was a bit easier to assume that it was the leftover hormone and not dwell on it too much. That's not to say I wasn't dissapointed and sad but I found it better to go with that train of thought. I have always wondered though if the test line would have progressed as it did if it had only been hcg from my previous pregnancy slowly reducing 🤔
Anyhow... One of those things I suppose. And now I've got a nearly 3 year old and 18 month old I wonder how I would be coping now with another one so close in age! I'm sure we would have but it most definitely would've been a handful.

Well done OP. Sounds like you would have handled it & of course been happy. But definitely a handful!
