What would be the one item you couldn't live without for your newborn?

I'm a mum to be, and I am hugely overwhelmed by all the stuff there is to buy on the market.
What's your best purchase? What made life easier?
Not just the obvious things like a car seat / pram, but for example breast feeding apron, or changing bag, or nipple cream????

Lanisol nipple cream

muslins

breast pads

Swaddle blanket.
Can't express how good they are.
Or if I could afford it...a nanny!

Velcro one to be precise...no escape!

Baby bath seat, the white plastic ones from newborn. Wonderful.

Things I didn't expect to me useful but where.

More breast pads than I thought existed
Muslins. Lots.
Nipple cream lamisol(?) my best friend through the first two weeks of bad latch

Blankets - to lay on, to cover, in the car seat, in the pram, in the house.
Vibratey chair - was 30 quid from Asda. Best money I could have spent. Only thing that would shift dd wind and allow me twenty minutes to eat.

Later on
A jumperoo. If only they did an adult one.

Sling, baby carrier!

Baby nighties...... they wear them to sleep in instead of a babygro. Just pull it up to change nappies at night. Not having millions of poppers to undo and do back up makes a world of difference at 3am! They also last for ages size wise so more cost effective than babygros. You can get them in john Lewis (called baby bundlers) or mothercare.

Washable breast pads... when you first look for nipple cream you realise they sell it everywhere!

Stretchy sling (I have a Kari Me), allows newborn to have their constant cuddles, allows mum to have constant cuddles AND do useful things like eat/wee/have fresh air/have feeling in arms.

Baby sleeping bag, when you feed them in the middle of the night there is a lot less resettling to do.

Cake.

Sling- proper soft one you can sit down and that in, not a Bjorn or anything else stiff.

Lansinoh can be got from Boots, Mothercare, supermarkets... it's a very popular item and while it is expensive it lasts ages and is also great on burns and chapped lips. Boots expert nipple cream is rubbish by the way (I speak from experience)

Oh yes, and gro bags.

Yes, infacol! And metanium for nappy rash.
Nail clippers.
Tea tree oil which I put in my bath every day to help heal.

Swaddlepod. Zip up swaddle. Amaaaaazing. And a teddy bear thing that played womb sounds. We swiftly figured out that we could dispense with the bear & just use the little sound box. Got him to sleep swiftly, soothed him when changing & at any other little grizzle. (Nb I laughed at my mother when she suggested it & beadily eyed the bear pre DS with a huge handful of salt. I was so put in my place when he arrived..)

Lansinoh was on offer in tesco, I use avent washable breast pads. I also use washable nappies & wipes, I could never go back to disposables now

nipple pads (I liked the big lansinoh ones, disposable)

a bra bigger than your head if BFing (my B cups went up to an F ++ )

a sling or baby carrier (I liked babybjorn active carrier)

I found the 'tummy tub' style f baby bath caused the least tantrums

I liked camomile organic baby bathshampoo - johnsons caused cradle cap, fr mine

metanium is the best for nappy rash- but hopefully not needed

a toy with a rattle noise inside

and when a little bigger, like 3 months, a prince lionheart rubber seat / pod - was brilliant

rainbow muslins from jojomamanbebe, expensive but you're looking at them every day at every feed so may as well be cheerful!
