What about tobacco/alcohol/Petrol?
Public sector cuts?

...yes good move ..... but VAT rise hits the poor hardest ??

I personally know quite a few people who source tobacco/fags from outside the UK.

The most common way is non-smoking friends who go to Europe to visit family or holiday.

Especially if you know a bunch of guys who go on stag weekends abroad.

Holidays are not a constant source of fags though - indivdual occassions a few times a year so mainly still buying fags in uk.

BIL was a lorry driver and was a regular source for many people for quite a while. All good things come to an end though and it was back to UK prices.

So although black market thrives, the government still make a fair whack off a tax increase I reckon

I find the large polish population round here to be quite useful in that regard.

It's estimated that over 50% of tobacco and up to around 18% of cigarettes consumed in the UK are from black market (smuggled) sources.........and that doesn't include the ones that are brought in legally through the duty free.....
